We’re fortunate to have so many talented artists as our friends. From illustrators to animators, to designers, to photographers (and some who do all of the above!), we’ve had the pleasure to be a part of a generous and creative community. Honestly, we wouldn’t be where we are without the support and encouragement of all of them.

Now we’d like to introduce you to some of these fine folks.

Leah Duncan is one of those artists who seems to do it all. She illustrates, designs, and personally hand crafts many of her home decor items. We introduced ourselves over email after discovering her work, with which we fell in love.

We finally met Leah in person after the first day of Surtex last month, and bonded over Korean fried chicken. She’s even nicer than you think!

Please enjoy our Snapshot of Leah!

1. Tell us a little bit about what you do.
I’m an illustrator and designer. I license my work to companies as well as have my own line of goods including textiles and stationery. (That was perfectly 25 words or less!)

2. How long have you’ve been doing this?
Art itself – all my life. Design – since college. My work – since 2008.

3. What’s inspiring you currently?
I went to the MOMA yesterday. In one day I saw Picasso, Matisse, Van Gogh, Edvard Munch, Salvador Dali, Diego Rivera, Robert Rauschenberg, Jackson Pollock, Jasper Johns and most importantly to me Frida Kahlo. It was inspiration overload and I desperately need time to make something.

4. What’s your dream project?
Perhaps an album cover for Arcade Fire or a line of home goods produced by a major retailer.

5. What’s your favorite holiday?

6. Cake or pie, and why?
Always chocolate cake unless it’s key lime pie. I prefer chocolate cake to everything, but key lime pie is especially yummy!

Thanks, Leah!
