Blog You're Happy / Snapshot: Lucky Day Studio

Twitter is really a great social media platform. We’ve met many terrific people through it and become friends with a few of them in real life! Julia Briggs and Donna Catanese of Lucky Day Studio are among those pals. While prepping for our first Surtex show in 2011, we panicked trying to find the right size hooks for our booth banners. A tweet query was hastily dispatched and it was the lovely ladies of Lucky Day to the rescue! (The GLM provide the S hooks specifically designed to fit their slotted walls.)

Once we arrived at Surtex, we simply had to introduce ourselves to these wonderful women. And lo and behold, their artwork! Loose, confident line work, vibrant colour palettes, and cute characters, we simply love it.

Since meeting Donna and Julia last year, Lucky Day have been amazingly generous in sharing their wisdom, experience and insight into the art licensing industry. Really, we’re the lucky ones to count them among our friends.

1. In about 25 words or less, tell us a little bit about what you do.
We doodle on cocktail napkins, we ponder, we plan, we play on paper and on screens, we love color, we try to make art that make you smile, and we have been lucky enough to sell it to great people in the social expression, gift packaging and fabric industries.

2. How long have you’ve been doing this?
We have been Lucky Day Studio for over four years, but we have worked together in the social expressions industry since the last century!

3. What’s inspiring you currently?
We are currently digesting all the amazing things we saw in NYC… from fun and whimsical window displays to the fashions on the street.. we are inspired by good design all around us.

4. What’s your dream project?
We love to see anything we do in stores. We actually gush like proud parents. We even have been know to take pictures with our stuff… it’s kinda creepy, we know. So to answer the question, any job that would end with us walking into a mass retailer or specialty shop with an assortment of Lucky Day Studio art all displayed together would be our ultimate dream job, for sure.

5. What’s your favourite holiday?
Christmas, absolutely. Except when we are working on Christmas… it is possible to OD on Santa.

6. Cake or pie, and why?
Why choose? We want to have our cake and eat pie too…

Thanks, Donna and Julia!
